The IEC had previously expressed confidence that it would reach 90% of result reporting last night, but this has not materialised. The Northern Cape is in the lead and has completed 89% of its results, followed by the Eastern Cape at 74% and the Western Cape at 67%.
The verification of results and counting of municipal election votes is continuing, and by 4 o’clock this morning, 58% of the results have been finalised.
