Minister Aaron Motsoaledi says a probe of the Home Affairs unit, responsible for issuing visa and residency applications has been launched after investigations revealed a multitude of irregularities.
The Minister, during a briefing to the Portfolio Committee on Home Affairs, says 14 members of the unit surprisingly asked the Committee who investigated corruption at Home Affairs offices to not continue with its investigations.
Motsoaledi says initial investigations revealed that in some instances, foreign applicants, younger than 25, are approved for retirement and study visas in just one day.
