The Department of Basic Education has dispelled rumours that matric pupils will be forced to get vaccinated against Covid-19, as their final exams approach.

DBE spokesperson Elijah Mhlanga said eligible matriculants, who are 18 years of age, or older, are encouraged to take the vaccine, but will not be forced to do so.

Mhlanga says there is no requirement for matric candidates to be vaccinated before being allowed to write exams.
