Environmental advocacy group, The Green Connection has welcomed the news that the seismic surveys, along the West Coast, have temporarily been halted.
The Australian-owned, Searcher Geodata, started the 2D and 3D seismic surveys on 24 January already.
The Western Cape High Court on Monday ordered the suspension of the surveys pending a court hearing on 7 March.
Strategic Lead at the Green Connection, Liziwe McDaid.
McDaid says the required processes, like conducting Environmental Impact Studies, have not been done before the company was awarded its operating licenses.

The environmental-rights group, The Green Connection has criticized NERSA’s decision to grant Karpowership SA three power-generation licences.
The group’s Strategic Lead, Liziwe McDaid says the operations of Karpowership SA along the South African coast will cause untold and lasting damage to the country’s oceans economy and ecology.
The National Energy Regulator of South Africa on Tuesday announced that it had approved three power-generation licences to the Turkish company to moor and generate electricity at the harbours of Saldanha Bay, Coega and Richards Bay.
McDaid says they will oppose NERSA’s decision.
