The Minister of Forestry and the Environment, Barbara Creecy says local San and Khoi communities will see immense benefits from the Rooibos Access and Benefit-sharing agreement.
The agreement, signed between the SA Rooibos Council and the National Khoi and San Council, and the South African San Council, recently saw its first benefit payment of more than R12 million paid to these communities.
Creecy says it’s important that these communities also benefit from the intellectual knowledge of local resources.
The Minister says members of these communities would now also be able to obtain funding to start their own businesses.
