Eskom says all of its employees, who have participated in the recent nationwide strike, have returned to work leading to a significant improvement in performance and generation capacity.

This improvement has prompted the reduction in loadshedding from stage 5 to stage 4 today.

Spokesperson Sikonathi Mantshantsha says technicians were also able to return seven generation units to service.

Mantshantsha says a further 600MW of capacity, from the hydroelectric scheme at the Cahora Bassa dam in Mozambique, has been added to the national grid.

The power cuts would then, if further progress is made with capacity, be reduced to lower stages over the weekend.

Mantshantsha urges residents to continue using electricity sparingly.
