Transport Minister Fikile Mbalula says the country’s road fatality figure, over the 2022 Easter period, decreased by more than 30% in comparison to last year.

The Minister says this may be attributed to the fact that, for example, the Zion Christian Church did not have its annual migration this year in line with the Covid-19 lockdown restrictions.

Mbalula says traffic volumes were significantly down from previous years.

He says the floods in the Eastern Cape and KwaZulu-Natal also affected people’s holiday plans.

162 people died on SA roads this Easter, while, over the same period last year, 235 perished in motorvehicle accidents.
