Western Cape residents, older than 50 years of age, have been urged to get vaccinated as soon as possible.

Although the majority of the province’s covid-19 infections were seen in people in the younger age cohorts, it’s those in the older age brackets who end up in hospital with Covid-complications.

According to the Western Cape Head of Health, Dr. Keith Cloete, 39% of the province’s residents, aged 20 to 39, tested positive for the virus, but rarely ended up being hospitalized.

Cloete says those over 50, have shown to get more severe forms of the virus.

He says there is concern that less and less people, in the 50 and 60-plus age-groups, register and show up for their injection.
