The world (and universe) is full of weird and wonderful places. Bobby & Lindy got talking about unusual places that you’ve been to, and a few ideas came through about destinations that you could put on your bucket list if you’re in the mood for a holiday that’s a little…different.
Bobby’s bucket list destination: This ancient city has can be traced back to 9000 BC and is one of the 7 Wonders of The World. The ‘lost city’ is famous for its incredible architecture carved into the reddish rock by the Nabatean people.
2. Pig Beach – Exuma
A tropical paradise in the Bahamas where you can swim with pigs who have made the beach their friendly home. Lindy is hoping to take a trip here one day, but it doesn’t come cheap. A plane ticket to Exuma could cost as much as R36 000.
3. Aoshima – Japan’s Cat Island
This was a suggestion from a listener who adores her feline friends. The cats were originally introduced on the island to control rodent numbers on fishing boats, but stayed on the island and reproduced in large numbers. So large that they currently outnumber humans on a ration of 10:1. So if you’re a cat lover and happen to be planning a trip to Japan, Aoshima is for you!
Maybe a bit far fetched (for now), but a smiley can dream, right? Another suggestion from a listener who dreams of a trip to Mars. Willa mentioned it would have to be a two trip, however, so he’s not in luck. The only prospects of future Mars missions have proposed one-way tickets.
5. Dallol Volcano – Ethiopia
Probably the closest place on Earth we have to something that looks like an alien planet. The volcano is located in the Dallol region of Northern Ethiopia. It’s a cauldron of burning salt, volcanic rock, and sulfuric acid. It is officially the hottest place on the planet. Most visitors to the volcano that’s littered with lakes of pure acid are scientists, who deal with temperatures of up to 55 degrees. I threw this one into the hat…but I don’t plan on going here anytime soon. Pretty to look at though.
