Angel Campey is a stand-up comedian who broke into the comedy scene in 2011 on Long Street, Cape Town. She has appeared several times on Comedy Central’s “Kings and Queens of Comedy”, has performed at the Johannesburg International Comedy Festival, and toured to New York City in 2016, performing on some of the most famous comedy stages in the world, including a trip to the JFL Comedy Festival in Montreal, Canada.  In 2015 Angel was nominated by the South African Department of Arts and Culture for an Mbokodo Award, recognising women changing the game in their industries, for Comedy.

Angel has a history in acting that began at the age of three. She received her Honours degree in Film & Media from the University of Cape Town in 2005.

She has a popular blog called Random High Fives, writes for ZAnews, Puppet Nation – the multi-award winning TV satire news show, and is a talented Master of Ceremonies and voice artist.

Angel’s radio career started in online streaming radio in 2012. She joined Smile 90.4FM in 2017, and co-hosts The Smile Drive, with Maurice Carpede, weekdays between 3pm and 6pm.

How do you feel about putting pineapple on pizza? I’m ok with it, but have you asked the Love, it’s not a real pizza without bacon, garlic and pineapple.

If you weren’t in radio – what would you be doing? Comedy and Panicking.

What music is currently on repeat in your car/house/phone? Big Band Swing.

What’s something about you that people would be surprised to know? I used to be a semi-pro surfer.
