The SIU’s Covid-19 report was released on Tuesday and painted a grim picture of the slow pace of accountability. The unit probed more than 5 400 government contracts awarded during the height of the Covid-19 pandemic.
Despite the Special Investigating Unit making 224 referrals for disciplinary action to be taken against officials for violating public procurement legislation, which led to the abuse of Covid-19 linked funding, action has only been taken in a handful of cases.
