Mkhize says between now and June the country should have received six million doses. He says government is trying to get more vaccines but because of the delays, the deliveries will be received later in the year. Mkhize says they are hoping to vaccinate 16-million people countrywide in the second phase of the #COVID-19 #vaccination programme.
As of 1pm the Western Cape had 3 005 active #COVID-19 infections, with a total of 290 371 people having been infected with COVID-19.
Mkhize visited an old age home in Krugersdorp on the West Rand, where senior citizens received their Pfizer jabs. Phase 2 of the vaccination rollout has kicked off at 87 sites around the country. Healthcare workers and the elderly remain a priority. Mkhize said those healthcare workers who were not vaccinated under Sisonke must not feel as though they’ve been left behind.
The suspended ANC Secretary-General was adamant he will never be banned from the party. He was showing his support for former president Jacob Zuma outside the High Court in Pietermaritzburg. Magashule submitted a document to the High Court in Johannesburg regarding the step-aside resolution. He wants it declared unlawful, invalid and unconstitutional.
Zuma appeared before Judge Piet Koen in the Pietermaritzburg High Court on charges of fraud, corruption and racketeering linked to the arms deal today. The matter was postponed to next Wednesday after Zuma’s lawyers told the State that they wanted to bring a section 106 application, which dealt with a prosecutor’s ability to prosecute a case. .
