South Africans adore a good protein, eggs and certain baked goods like hot cross buns on Easter. I’m not here to help you pickle fish or bake hot cross buns, I’m pretty sure those Easter meals you can already prepare with confidence. If not, find helpful recipes here.
I want to share with you, a main, a dessert, a snack for either before or after and a drink.
Let’s tackle the big-gun protein first as an Easter meal – one-pan lamb. When I say lamb, you shout, garlic, rosemary, white wine and veggies… This recipe had me hooked at “one pan”. I know we all love a big warm family gathering, but please just don’t let me do the dishes afterwards. The BBC provides you with the whole recipe.
- 1.6kg bone-in leg of lamb
- 50ml olive oil , plus a splash
- 3 oregano sprigs, leaves picked and roughly chopped
- 4 rosemary sprigs, leaves of 2 picked and roughly chopped
- 1 lemon , zested (save the juice for the spring greens, see goes well with)
- 1 garlic bulb , cloves lightly smashed
- 1 red chili , pierced
- 1kg potatoes , skins on, cut into thick wedges
- 3 fennel bulbs , cut into quarters lengthways, tops removed, green fronds reserved
- 250ml white wine
- 250ml good-quality chicken stock
2. Oreo egg cheesecake brownies
Oreos are once again THE ingredient to incorporate into most desserts! Have yourself some fun and forget the calories with these Easter meals. Personally I cannot resist a good cheesecake when I smell one.
- ¾ cup flour
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- ⅔ cup cocoa powder
- ½ cup brown sugar
- ½ teaspoon baking powder
- ¼ teaspoon salt
- ⅓ cup milk
- ½ cup chocolate chips
- 6 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 2 large eggs, beaten
- ½ cup white chocolate chips
- 16 Oreo cookies, whole
- 8 ounces cream cheese, softened
- ¼ cup granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 1 large egg
- 6 Oreo cookies, chopped
Head over to The Delicious House for each step if you are not confident is preparing brownies.
3. 3-Ingredient Healthy Peach Creamsicles
Okay, fine I know I said to let yourself go a little but just this once, but I could not resist the idea of these healthy popsicles. Homemade treats that do not require too much skill is a great opportunity for you to get the kids involved and keep them busy for at least a short while.
Just look at that colour. Recreate them here.
- 1 ½ lbs peaches, fresh or frozen (about 3-4 large or 4-5 small peaches)
- ¾ cup raw cashews. soaked for at room temperature for least 4 hours, or in the fridge overnight
PS: I’m pretty sure you can swop peaches for most fruit. Imagine kiwi, litchi or even watermelon.
4. Cottontail martini
An Easter meal goes well with a hand crafted drink. How cute is it that this drink is inspired by Peter Cottontail, the rabbit that went hoppin’ down the bunny trail.
This is so appropriate for Easter. Feel free to turn this into a mocktail as well.
- 1.5 ounces whipped vodka – or vanilla vodka
- 1.5 ounces coconut rum
- 2 ounces half and half
- 1/2 ounce cream of coconut
- Splash of pineapple juice
- Honey, chopped sweetened coconut, and marshmallow to garnish
May you have a love-filled Easter.

Easter has the potential to be such a warming and heartfelt time for families. If you are in anyway similar to me, you’ll also feel need to do something a little bit more creative this season. It’s been a difficult past two years, maybe this is the first Easter gathering you’ll have since the outbreak of the pandemic. When we come together this Easter we have the opportunity to appreciate our loved ones just a little more, once again. To go on an Easter egg hunt is very traditional and fun but here are some extra fun for the whole family.

How to make Easter fun and eventful
1. Easter egg advent calendar
I am a sucker for advent calendars. It’s such a thoughtful project and idea that can either be gifted or used by your own family. Advent calendars can be used by the kids to start counting down to Easter Sunday. You can fill your homemade eggs basically with anything you wish. However Kollabora reccomends confetti with a fun written activity.
Find the DIY here.
2. Numbered bean bag toss
Fingers crossed it’s not raining on that day. Even then “getting a little competitive never hurt any family”, said no one ever. If you think your family can get competitive and still love each other, then I dare you to play this right before dinner.
It is so much of fun and simple yet you’re guaranteed to have lots of fun.
You can make these yourself, here’s how.
3. Balloon Easter egg hunt
Let’s elevate your Easter egg hunt game by incorporating some balloons. If you’re the Instagram and Facebook kind of person, these will make beautiful photos for you to brag with on your socials. Traditional eggs hunts might be too difficult for younger kids. Balloons will help with those really difficult to find hidden eggs.
4. Jelly bean bingo
What a creative way to entertain the kids and your tastebuds. If you want to be “that” person this Easter, you can play the adult version with some liquids appropriate for those over the age of 18…
If you need a whole tutorial you can find it here.
5. Easter eggs-ercises
The Seasoned Mom suggest physical exercises or fun dance moves to get some endorphins pumping. Even if your party is lame you can always count on some feel-good-endorphins to lift the mood or make the gathering memorable. However, I would suggest you play truth or dare with these eggs, especially if you are playing with a group of older guests. Whatever question you place in the eggs needs to executed or answered. Just please make sure you are not ruining a family gather with inappropriate questions. This is not the time to find out if Harry is really cheating on Sally. *wink*
Have loads of fun and take many pictures.

Easter is a great opportunity for you start expressing your creativity. I know that we sometimes have the desire to spoil or treat our guests but we don’t always know how to make a treat special. With these Easter gifts ideas I hope to help you on you conquest.
2022 is the year we’re gonna turn a morning Easter gathering on it’s head, Funny Bunny.
What you need:
- Scrap fabric cut into 2-5cm
- A balloon
- Hole punch
- Wired ribbon
This will make a great time consuming project and can even be used as decorations throughout the weekend.
Maybe I’m just keen on becoming a mom sooner than later but this seems like so much fun. Either way if you have some extra time and cash on hand this will be so beautiful on a kiddies table and keep them occupied while the grown-ups sip on some refreshments.
A game to play, because adults also need entertainment
A Left/Right Story
I stumbled upon this game on Hello Giggles and it has the potential to be so entertaining.
Let this game be the Easter gift for the adults attending.
As kids we used to play this game but that doesn’t mean it has to be limited to people under a certain age. The rules are that someone brings a prize and wraps it in wrapping paper. Now as everyone is seated we can start writing our own story. Each guest will add one sentence to the story. The sneaky guests will manipulate the story to ensure that the best gifts land on their lap. When the storyteller says “left” or “right,” that’s the direction the gift gets passed… and at the end of the story, whoever’s holding the gift gets to keep it. Suspense, prizes, tons of laughs—sounds amazing, right? If you’re not feeling creative enough to write your own story, Party Games Now has a printable one ready for you.
Easter themed gatherings and decor
This is one of those, “why did I not think of this” moments. Isn’t this just the cutest decoration you’ve ever seen?
You can fill those dried eggshells with anything! If you wash them properly before drying them in the sun you can even use them to serve snacks. I love it! Some people even fill them with candle wax to DIY some pretty looking candles.
Listen I’m not saying your guests are all rabbits but it’s Easter and we are trying to be creative here, hence a makeshift carrot.
This so simple yet so effective. Feel free to fill the bag with anything orange (even real carrots if you’re a healthy freak).
Man, people are creative. This is so simple yet I couldn’t think of the idea myself. This just shows you that an Easter gift doesn’t not need to cost you hundreds of rands. Anything wrapped like a cute bunny is special even if you will the bag with only love and air, I’d still appreciate the gesture and efforts.
What you need:
- Paper bags
- Ribbon or rope
- Cotton wool

Firstly, what the heck does Pantone refer to?
If you already know, that’s great but younger folks might not know.
Let’s first define the word Pantone. According to Merchandise Essentials Pantone colours are colour codes, trademarked by the Pantone company, that represents a specific shade. Each colour shade has a different or unique code. Pantone colours are used in communication to ensure that every involved party knows exactly what the end product should look like. For example if you tell me please paint the wall pink. What pink do you have in mind? Is it dark pink, light pink, baby pink? Okay, light pink. Is it pastel or neon? Okay, pastel. Is it faded or sharp? You see where I’m going with this. If you just provided me with a colour code I would paint your wall the exact colour you had in mind.
So, what is the Pantone colour of 2022?
It’s called Very Peri here’s the code if you need to paint you walls:
PANTONE 17-3938 Very Peri
“Displaying a carefree confidence and a daring curiosity that animates our creative spirit, inquisitive and intriguing PANTONE 17-3938 Very Peri helps us to embrace this altered landscape of possibilities, opening us up to a new vision as we rewrite our lives. Rekindling gratitude for some of the qualities that blue represents complemented by a new perspective that resonates today, PANTONE 17-3938 Very Peri places the future ahead in a new light.
We are living in transformative times. PANTONE 17-3938 Very Peri is a symbol of the global zeitgeist of the moment and the transition we are going through. As we emerge from an intense period of isolation, our notions and standards are changing, and our physical and digital lives have merged in new ways.” – Pantone.com
What does this mean for your wardrobe and budget?
Now when we look at the world of fashion we know how important colours are when it comes to trends. Think of when you were a teenager or mid-twenties I am pretty sure you can easily recall colours that were popular and trendy to dress in. But what does this colour of the year mean to us in 2022? We will most definitely see more of these outfits on the high end fashion runways. That will then flow down to the everyday consumer where you will see loads more items, in this colour at you favourite clothing stores.
I want to share with you how you can dress yourself to remain trendy. I know there are some people who believe that trends are, and I quote “stupid”. However fashion plays a huge role in how people identify and express themselves. So next time you find yourself at a crossroad choose the Very Peri colour you’ll even see how these more vibrant colours tend to lift your moral as well, turning to black is so last season.
Let’s look at ways you can incorporate this beautiful colour into your wardrobe.
According to Vogue the colour Very Peri embraces strangeness. From the photos below you will notice some outfits that might actually seem strange to you but taking in to account that in 2022 we might need something new to lift spirits and speed joy, it’s rightfully so, time embraces strange and new. As you can see colour can be added into any and every part of your “getup” or “look”. From shoes to handbags and also don’t forget nail polish or even some eyeshadow to brighten your final look.
As someone who has a definite favourite kind of style I am however always open to incorporate something new without changing my core style. I will probably swop out my plain white blouse for a Very Peri coloured one.
“It is a colour that really places the future ahead in a new light,” said Laurie Pressman, the vice president of the Pantone Color Institute.
I don’t know about you but I for one am ready for a brighter future.

With the fitness industry booming and everyone trying to be as healthy as possible there has been a rapid increase in the demand, especially under younger citizens, to start living healthy. Health starts with your lifestyle and what you use to fuel your body. I want to share some healthy recipes for singles, with you. These are easy to prepare and will not drive your calorie intake through the roof. All my lazy singles, you’ll thank me later.
Let me just get one thing off my chest. When it comes to trying to cook healthy recipes, know that healthy in this context by NO MEANS mean you have to only eat salads, you ain’t no goat. However start with making sure you check the amount of added sauces you use in your dish, yes I’m looking at you, you mayo, chutney and tomato sauce lovers! Hold back on the sauce.
Now, what should you stock up on to avoid impulse unhealthy buys?
The Tiny Life sums it up so perfectly. These are some of my personal staples for recipes for healthy singles because they are all packed with nutrients:
- Bagels (relax it’s not fattening if your consume in moderation)
- Low fat cottage cheese (perfect to ad to any snack)
- Any cold meat you prefer (affordable, quick and easy protein)
- Trim Mayonnaise (you’ll be surprised to see what a difference some kilojoules can make)
- Eggs (can be used in so many different ways)
- Oats (perfect for healthy baking)
- Couscous (6min in the microwave and you’re sorted)
- Peanut Butter (this just makes everything taste better)
- Greek Yogurt (I have a very healthy delicious late night craving dessert I’ll share)
- Frozen fruit and honey (to satisfy those sweet cravings)
Healthy and delicious chicken stew
It takes 10 min to prepare and 30 min to cook with zero effort. Before my boyfriend met me, this was the only, seriously the only dish he would make himself and eat two meals from one effort. I keep on making it, because there is no ingredient that will unnecessarily spike the calorie count, if you consume in moderation.
- Cherry tomatoes
- Chicken stock
- Chicken on the bone pieces
- Rice of your liking
- Boiling water
If you’re feeling fancy you can throw anything in there. I’ve added brussel sprouts, carrots, onions, you name it.
Throw it ALL in a pot at once, add the boiling water and walk away.
30-40minutes later you have dinner and lunch for the next day.
It should look something like this, ditch the bread you don’t need it, you already have your carb, ie rice.
For those who are not that into eating meat at night
You’ll be surprised to know that there are people who prefer less meat than you, my friend.
- Cherry tomatoes
- Feta cheese
- Basil (fresh or pesto)
- Olive oil
- The pasta of your choice (try whole-wheat)
- Garlic (you are single so you might as well eat it)
Bake your tomatoes, basil and feta drizzled with some olive oil in the oven for about 20min at 180 degrees Celsius until you can see that the tomatoes start peeling and appear soft. While that is baking, cook your pasta in boiling water on the stove. Once that is cooked and you pasta is ready throw it all in one bowl and serve hot for dinner and cold for lunch the next day.
If you’re feeling like the carnivore in you needs to be satisfied, you may add cooked chicken pieces at the end.
Healthy breakfast for single champions
If you haven’t noticed, I am very calorie aware and personally believe that it plays a crucial role in maintaining a healthy body weight. This healthy recipe for singles is high in protein and fibre.
- 80g raw oats (rolled or normal)
- 1tsp baking powder
- 2 eggs whites
- 30ml milk (the one from cows, I don’t like milk alternatives, but if you’re vegan, feel free)
- Whey protein (optional)
- As much vanilla essence as you wish (I ad A LOT)
- If you are feeling rich you can add some blue berries
- Adding something like banana and nuts will increase the calorie count to possibly unwanted levels, however if this is not a concern to you, nuts is always lekker especially almonds.
Mix it all together and bake in muffin pans at 180 degrees Celsius for 25 minutes. If you are using an air fryer you’ll only need 12 minutes at 180 degrees. Pro tip – if you have silicone molds you don’t need to use Spray and Cook or butter (this is the health goal here).
Last but not least a great breakfast for those who love their eggs in the morning
This is best cooked in an air fryer but you may use the oven as well.
- 2 Whole wheat bread slices
- Cold meat
Use a drinking glass to cut a circle through one of the slices of bread. Carefully assemble your stack by placing one slice of bread on the bottom, your meat then the second slice, lastly break the egg in the middle of the top slice with the hole in.
Bake this, preferably in your air fryer for 10-15 minutes. You’ll notice that the stack cooks from the outside in. so make sure your egg whites are cooked to the desired state by poking the egg to see the consistency.
