The minister visited the community over the weekend to hear first-hand what their grievances are and to make a plan to resolve them. The department has allocated certain parts of the land to the Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Environmental Affairs, which uses it mainly for plantation purposes. De Lille’s department was notified earlier, that certain parts of the land were illegally occupied.

In his closing address to the three-day NEC meeting held on a virtual platform, Ramaphosa said the NEC agreed, “… that such conduct was completely unacceptable and a flagrant violation of the rules, norms and values of the ANC”. The NEC instructed the officials to advise Magashule, “… to apologise publicly to ANC structures and members within a set timeframe. Ramaphosa also revealed that there have been “unwarranted attacks” on deputy Secretary-General Jessie Duarte and ANC staffers, as well as NEC coordinator Andries Nel for carrying out the decisions by ANC structures on those who must step aside.
